Logroño, Spain
Situated along the Rio Ebro, the agricultural city of Logroño
(population 130,000) has long been explored in the pilgrimage route
of St. James. Visitors wont want to miss Santiago el Real,
the 16th Century gothic church that overlooks the river, still standing
in the Saints honor. The city is also, most notably, the capital
of La Rioja. Say La Rioja to Spaniards and tourists
alike, and one thing springs to mind: the best wine of Spain not
to mention some of the best in the world. Also of major interest
in Logroño are the Museo de la Rioja and the lively old section
of town. Visitors can enjoy a relaxed afternoon of people-watching
on its open plazas or a stroll through the streets. Of historical
value, the first text in Castilian Spanish was written in Logroño.
